The complexity of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD) makes the treatment of these conditions both costly and difficult to manage. To improve health outcomes while lowering treatment costs, many health plans are turning to third-party organizations, such as Healthmap Solutions, that specialize in kidney population health management. To get the health plan’s perspective on the value of a third-party program, we spoke with Elizabeth Malko, MD, a well-known and experienced health plan chief medical officer (CMO), who encouraged her organization to partner with Healthmap to manage their CKD/ESRD members in 2019.
